What is Pathology?

Pathology is the study of disease. It examines the causes and effects of disease or injury, and links science to medicine when diagnosing. A general pathologist's role would include diagnosing disease through the analysis of body tissue, cells, or fluid. People can specialize further in Pathology into fields such as dermatopathology, hematopathology, or surgical pathology. However, in order to specialize in pathology, one must complete a fellowship. As of today, the average pathologist makes around $300,000, and the job is expected to grow around 7% by 2028, which is faster than average compared to other professions. Pathologists must recertify their licenses every ten years through the American Board of Pathology.
